Until Dawn
A thrilling interactive horror experience where your choices directly impact the fate of eight teenagers trapped in a remote mountain cabin.
Until Dawn masterfully blends the interactive movie format with classic horror tropes, creating a genuinely suspenseful and replayable experience. The game’s strength lies in its compelling narrative, populated by a diverse cast of relatable (if sometimes cliché) teenagers, each with their own secrets and motivations. The branching narrative keeps you constantly guessing, forcing you to make difficult decisions under pressure that genuinely affect the story’s outcome and who lives or dies. The butterfly effect is palpable, and the sheer number of possible endings encourages multiple playthroughs to explore every twist and turn.
The horror elements are well-executed, relying more on psychological tension and jump scares than gratuitous gore. While some scares might be predictable, the overall atmosphere of dread and paranoia is consistently effective. The game cleverly uses the environment, sound design, and subtle cues to build suspense, leaving you on the edge of your seat, anticipating the next terrifying event. The use of quick-time events, while sometimes feeling a little overused, adds to the immersive experience and the constant feeling that your actions directly impact the unfolding events.
However, Until Dawn isn’t without its flaws. Some of the character interactions can feel somewhat forced or unnatural at times, and the dialogue occasionally falls into predictable teen movie tropes. The occasional cheesy line or over-the-top acting can briefly pull you out of the immersive experience. Furthermore, while the multiple endings provide replayability, some players might find the necessity of multiple playthroughs to see everything a slight drawback. The game also leans heavily on predictable horror clichés, which, while effective in creating a familiar atmosphere, may not surprise seasoned horror fans.
Despite these minor shortcomings, Until Dawn is a highly entertaining and engaging game. The tension, the compelling story, and the genuinely impactful choices make it a worthwhile experience for fans of interactive narratives and horror alike. The game’s ability to create a personalized and unforgettable horror story for each player makes it a truly unique gaming experience that stands out from other interactive narrative games. It successfully balances horror elements with compelling characters and a gripping story, making it a must-play for the genre’s enthusiasts. The constant fear of making the wrong decision and losing a character adds a layer of emotional investment that’s rare in many games.
Overall, I give Until Dawn an 8.5 out of 10. It’s available on PlayStation 4.

While I enjoyed the interactive storytelling, the characters felt a bit two-dimensional at times, and the dialogue was sometimes cheesy. The reliance on horror clichés was also a bit disappointing. Still, a fun game overall.
7/10. Could have used some better character development.

I found the constant fear of losing characters really engaging. The story was gripping, even though some parts felt a bit cliché. The acting wasn’t always great, but overall, it was a pretty unique horror experience. A fair 8.5/10.

While I enjoyed the atmosphere and the suspense, I found the dialogue a bit cheesy at times and some character interactions felt awkward. It relied a little too heavily on jump scares for my liking. Still a fun game, but not perfect.

Loved the interactive movie format! It felt like I was watching a really intense horror movie that I could directly influence. The multiple endings are a great incentive to replay, but some may find it a drag to have to replay for all the outcomes

Loved Until Dawn! The tension was incredible, and I actually felt genuinely invested in the characters’ fates. Making those tough choices was so stressful but rewarding. Definitely replaying to see different outcomes.
8/10 is a fair score, I’d even give it a 9!

Totally agree with the 8.5 rating! Until Dawn had me hooked from start to finish. The choices were genuinely difficult, and I loved the butterfly effect. I lost a few characters on my first playthrough, which made me want to replay it immediately to try and save them all. Definitely worth it!

Until Dawn is graphically impressive and the sound design is top-notch, building a truly immersive horror experience. But the predictable nature of some horror elements lessened the impact for me. Good game overall, but not groundbreaking.

I’m not usually into horror games, but I found this one surprisingly engaging. The story was captivating, and the characters were interesting enough to keep me invested. However, I did find some of the quick-time events a bit repetitive.

Big disappointment. The story was predictable, the characters were annoying stereotypes, and the jump scares were cheap and repetitive. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have nothing else to play. 5/10.

The quick-time events felt a bit overused, and some of the jump scares were predictable. However, the overall narrative was strong, and the concept was very innovative. I really enjoyed the emotional investment. A solid 8/10.

The game’s strengths are its narrative and the weight of your decisions. It’s thrilling to see how your choices affect the characters’ fates. The fear of failure and loss adds an emotional layer rarely seen in games. A must play for interactive narrative fans!
